Film Production - Scout Locations

Jaxon and I decided to do most of the filming in photo #2 as it is the biggest entrance to the forest. Since Nathan and Oscar are shooting the introduction to the show, so it makes sense to record the film not actually in the forest. While it will be dark out so you cannot see most of the woods, it will allow Jaxon and I to perform better acting jobs, as we are actually on location.

Jaxon and I planned to make a more slasher type film, but we decided to create a found footage film,as it would be much easier doing a first person point of view film. I believe we achieved the idea of making a good film with the resources we had. The beginning scene leaves the viewer in wonder as to what killed the two filmers and how they died and eggs them to watch more. The cuts were used to create suspense and the first person point of view truly put the viewer in the movie. The movie fulfilled my idea of what two high school students could make with what they had. I am proud of our film, with some great editing done by Jaxon Greer, and myself creating a lot of the dialogue.

Establishing shot - Jaxon (Nathan Rees) is looking around the forest, investigating the woods for a good place to start filming 

  

Tilt - signifies that the beginning of the show is being filmed 

  

Mid-shot of Jaxon talking about the history of the "Skinwalker Forest" 

  

Over the Shoulder - shot over Jaxon's shoulder capturing the forest and pure darkness behind him

Multiple Cuts - This signifies that the footage was "found" and not edited in any way to make it look smoother for viewers, but instead is left unedited to look choppy and natural. 

  

Insert shot - Insert shot of the IPhone, this scene shows the audience that Nathan Rees and Oscar are attempting to fake the footage for their TV Show.  

Film Production- Schedule Filming

Dates we planned to film:

11/20 - Over this Thanksgiving break, Jaxon and I will be looking for places to shoot. As we plan to shoot a horror movie, we will be looking for some place isolated; of course, depending on what kind of horror movie we do.  

11/26 - Jaxon and I have decided to film some sort of horror movie involving a creepy entity stalking us. We’ve settled on shooting it in the woods behind my house.  

12/3 - Jaxon and I will be filming the opening scene of our movie this weekend, in order to get a feel for it. This way we can slowly build our film, into something that we both want and feels natural. 

12/10 - Jaxon and I spontaneously decided to do a found footage film this past weekend, we were able to finish our final script and filmed some of the movie. Unfortunately, due to footage problems, we are unable to use any of the recorded material. So, we will have to finish filming this weekend.  

12/15 - Jaxon and I finished filming and have decided that in order to meet the length of two minutes, we will need to record more. Furthermore, it will allow us to add a proper introduction to the film, so it looks less sporadic and more natural.

“Is it rolling?”

“That’s the thing, we’re not really sure... Um... From the footage, it seems to be some sort of animal.”

Interviewer

“What kind of animal?”

Edward

“Listen, I told you all that I know. My team and I will be launching an investigation on the event that took place.”

Cut

Interviewer

“Can you keep going?”

Edward

“Yeah, it’s just unfortunate that these two, bright, aspiring film artists, are missing. They were so ahead of their time.”

Interviewer

“Anything else?”

Edward

“Let me be very clear, what you’re about to see has not been edited in any way, it’s purely raw, uncut footage; this is what we found.”

Outside forest entry

                                                (Hand over face) Get the light out of my eyes

Ya, for sure.

“I am here at the entrance of the forbidden “Skin Walker” forest. Camera man Oscar and I will go into the woods in exactly 10 minutes to begin our all-night investigation of the supposedly cursed forest. There have been many sightings of skin walkers and – mess up – screw this dude hand me the script. (noise in the woods)

            This movie is about two TV Show producers going missing after filming a documentary episode on the elusive “Skinwalker Forest.” After they are not heard from the morning after the episode recording was supposed to go down, the film studio went to the location and founding nothing but the camera. After watching what footage was captured, Edward Sharpe, the CEO of the Network broadcasting Nathan Rees and Oscar Baxter’s show, decided to launch a full investigation with him and a team to find out what was behind their disappearance. *

                                               

Film Production- Casting

          In the movie The Point of No Return the main character is Nathan Rees played by Jaxon Greer who is a reality television host who investigates paranormal hot spots, and mythical creature locations. He is a perfect fit for this role because he is genuinely interested in the topics listed, as well as the fact that he has made it very clear he can pull off a great acting job of acting like bossy, belligerent, jerk such as Nathan Rees. 

             Oscar Baxter the cameraman played by the one and only Shane Kilduff. He is a perfect fit for this role because of his enthusiasm towards the filming industry; as well as his casual personality fit for a cameraman working for a highly anxious, rude boss. 

            Edward Sharpe played by Jackson Mooney is the optimal pick for this part; as he is a very professional and well-mannered individual. He suits this role due to his acting abilities playing a distraught and worried authority figure.  

Film Project Genre Research- The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre- Opens with a narrator talking about the film and giving slight information on the story. It then states the date "August 18, 1973", which creates the setting. Goes to black screen with a sound bridge of someone weal-ding a knife or machete cutting something. It continues to flash onto what seems like completely mutilated corpse. It then goes to black again opening up to a disfigured body without its skin on its face standing like a scare crow in a cemetery. It starts with a close up on what used to be a face and pulls out to a wide shot of the body with sound of a police report on the incident. After all that there are no job titles presented within the opening scene just merely the stating the date. The films budget was 140,000 dollars and had a box office of 30.9 million dollars, giving it a grand total profit of 30,760,000 dollars. The movie won the "Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Actor: Horror/Thriller.
