Film Project Genre Research- A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

A Nightmare on Elm Street- The movie opens up with a low shot of just a mans feet and has some credits about the production, such as New Line Cinema film and a Robert Shaye production. It shows Freddy slowly making his infamous gloves with the knifes on the end of each finger tip. Has a mid shot of a girl and then moves to a long shot of her running down a tunnel. As she runs down the tunnel it shows the starring actors and actresses in the film. The film budget was 1.8 million and had a box office of 25.5 million with a profit of 23.7 million. It was awarded People's Choice Award for Favorite Horror Movie.

Film Project Genre Research- Friday the 13th (1980)

Friday the 13th- The movie starts off with shot of the night sky and the moon. The shot slowly pans down to the lake and camp cabin below with a sound bridge of campers singing. Has a long of the cabin and states "Camp Crystal Lake 1958" which sets the setting. Switches to a point of view shot and enters another cabin with campers sleeping, switches back to the cabin with the campers singing. Shows two camp counselors singing looking intimating towards each other and gives an over shoulder shot from both. No job titles are listed in opening credits as it doesn't open up to any in the first 2 minutes, it is not till after the entire first scene the credits roll in. The budget of the film was 700,000 dollars and had a box office of 59.8 million dollars with a profit of 59.1 million dollars. It was awarded the MTV Lifetime Achievement Award.

Film Project Genre Research- Halloween (1978)

Halloween- The opening credits starts off with a black screen and a pumpkin on the far left side, using the rule of thirds with the pumpkin taking up one third and the credits taking up the rest. As the credits slowly role in crediting the film makers. The camera slowly moves to the pumpkin until it's a close up. Truly letting the viewer know the setting of Halloween. The opening scene starts off with a sound bridge of what sounds like kids chanting about Halloween, and it states the place and exact date of the movie.  After the sound bridge we open to a long shot point of view of a suburban house with no sound. With that it allows the viewer to understand the setting of the movie completely but that is about it. The job titles listed are just about every major component that goes into the film process. The film budget was 325,000 dollars and the box office was roughly 70 million dollars worldwide with a profit of 69,675,000 million dollars you could say it was quite a successful film. It gained the Saturn Award for Best Blu-ray or DVD collection in 2014 and was nominated for the Saturn Award for best horror film in 1979.

Film Project Genre Research- The Shining (1980)

The Shining- The opening scene starts off with very ominous music playing over some aerial shots of the landscape in the great Colorado mountains. It shows just how secluded and far out the hotel really is. The opening credits has the actors, producers, book writer, and the title of the movie throughout the scene. The story is not told very much through the duration of the scene and only creates the setting of the movie with no plot. It costed 15 million dollars to produce but came out with a box office of nearly 45 million dollars, thus creating 30 million in profit. The film has won 2 awards, 1 for the Saturn Award for best supporting actor and the other for the Saturn Award for best DVD or Blu-ray collection. 

Project Selection- My Decision

The movie seems like it'd be the best choice for me as I have been extremely interested in movies since I can remember. My love for movies is much more than the my liking of magazines. Movies just take a very different approach into producing such a fabulous product. Skills I possess that would benefit me into creating a quality movie are the fact that I have outstanding social skills and would understand the target audience and what they want like no other. Another great aspect I believe I hold is good camera work as I make my own videos already. My group will consist of Kevin, Jaxon, and I, we will work together to produce some type of horror movie. I believe I will take charge more into the director type of role, Jaxon into the screenwriter/main actor, and Kevin will most likely be the editor of the film. With all the different talents we all possess I believe we can make a quality opening scene for a horror movie that should leave the viewer on the edge of their seat.

Project Selection- Film

The aspects that film production contain interest me greatly. They can be very intense depending on the movie type. Watching movies has always been a thrilling past time for me as I've watched countless movies since I can imagine. Movies allowing the viewer to put themselves in the situation and truly be in the story. With that amazing feeling never leaving my mind, I've grown to love movies more than the average Joe. The love has only grown as I call myself a major movie fanatic and I rigorously dissect and judge every movie I watch. With these critiques I see myself more and more getting into the feel of the whole movie itself. I love how all the different components of sound, camera work, acting, and good directing all come together to make a great movie.

Project Selection- Magazine

Magazine- The incredibly rigorous process that quality journalist must conduct seems very interesting to me as it allows them to fully understand the topic at hand. The objective view point one must hold is something to celebrate as a journalist. The fact that magazines are made in such a short amount of time I wonder how tough it must be to get it all together before its published. Magazines that look at more serious topics like the New York Times are special to me. My step-father has a membership for the New York Times and I read there articles all the time. The content is just on a more sophisticated level than others. It focuses on topics that I'm interested in greatly, such as politics and other government affairs. Lastly, if I were to compose a magazine together I would surely try to format mine to be something relating to serious topics like the Times.
